bkr x re—inc launch limited edition bkrs celebrating the 2023 Women's World Cup

Last International Women’s Day we released a bkr with a powerful message: FUCK YOU, PAY ME. We made this bkr to recognize that while we may have a woman Vice-President and some women have ascended to the C-Suite, globally women make 77 cents for every dollar earned by men-- and for women of color, immigrants and mothers-- the gap is even wider. This gap results in a lifetime of inequality for women.

One place where this inequality has come into focus recently is sports. A study that analyzed over 460 occupations found that athletes have the worst gender pay gap. One glaring example: In 2019, The FIFA Women’s Soccer team was paid $260,000 each for winning a World Cup, while the men’s team made $1.1 million each and they didn’t even make it to the World Cup championship game. Now some good news: In 2023, President Biden signed the Equal Pay for Team USA Act into law, ensuring all athletes who represent the United States in global competition – like the World Cup, Olympics and Paralympics – receive equal pay and benefits – regardless of gender.  This legislation followed litigation against U.S. Soccer for gender discrimination brought by Women’s World Cup players including Megan Rapinoe.

In 2019, US Women’s National Soccer Team champions Megan Rapinoe, Tobin Heath, Meghan Klingenberg, and Christen Press founded re—inc with the mission to inspire people to fight for progress and equity. Re-inc is a global community and also offers an eco-conscious line for all genders.

Now bkr has partnered with re—inc on a limited edition bkr celebrating the 2023 Women’s World Cup and re—inc’s mission to reimagine the status quo. The 2023 World Cup marks the first time the US Women’s National Team will play with equal pay to the US Men’s National Team.

“As a woman-owned and operated business, bkr is beyond excited to partner with these insanely talented and driven women who are using everything at their disposal to create real change for equal pay and gender equality”

A portion of sales from this bkr will benefit Football For Her, a safe-space for girls & non-binary youth to build their confidence on and off the pitch.
